SOUND OF SILENCE – INNOVATIVE ACOUSTICS

The main focus of technical acoustics – providing a foundation for sound and vibration-generating plants and systems to prevent disturbing sound transmissions into living and working environments – is something that we have continuously further developed.

Modern and powerful high-tech equipment including MRI scanners produce ultra-high noise emissions while other instruments such as scanning electron microscopes are extremely sensitive to the slightest disturbance.

Our component structures optimized to the respective use situation make it possible to operate these systems with the greatest quality and without disturbing the users or the systems.

We are also your competent planning partner in the acoustic development of products. We develop products, test methods and test benches together with you. Our consulting, planning and measurement services provide you with the highest level of support in developing your innovative products.

MRI SYSTEMS

Noise is inevitably produced during the operation of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) systems; we do everything to avoid acoustic interference. Since 1999 we have been developing measures for the operation of MRI systems to reduce the transmission of airborne or structure-borne sound into adjacent rooms that need to be protected against this.

We were able to adapt conventional approaches in architectural acoustics in order to forecast the immission level and derive measures related to the transmission of airborne sound, but not for forecasting the transmission of structure-borne sound.

In collaboration with well-known manufacturers of MRI systems, we developed a new measurement and calculation technique by determining the required structure-borne sound emissions as input data for conventional MRI scanners. We have been applying and verifying this forecast model since 2002. The results of comparative measurements at the construction show a high correlation between the forecast results and the measured values.

The measures we have developed are technically and economically optimized to such a degree that the acoustic requirements are complied with, without the actions going beyond what is necessary due to safety margins.

Our successful consulting in the field of vibration protection and acoustics in over 400 installations worldwide is proof of our outstanding competence in this field.

DEVELOPMENT OF PRODUCTS

Take advantage of our acoustics expertise in your team when developing products.

We support you in product development and in acoustic testing in the manufacturing process and even assist you in the development of test benches.

We are also happy to perform measurement tasks as an external service provider to your R&D department; this complements your team’s skills and capacities for greater flexibility and more efficient development work.

You benefit from our wide range of experience in different product innovations and test methods.

We are also specialists when it comes to the analysis of sound and vibration-related problems in product manufacturing and develop effective and efficient solutions tailored to your production process.

We are specialists in the following areas:

  • Support with acoustic issues in product development
  • Theoretical and metrological testing of product variants
  • Transfer of acoustic requirements to product properties
  • Development of test methods for the manufacturing process
  • Performance of measurements as an external service provider with on-time, high-quality documentation of the results
  • Analysis of sound and vibration-related problems in production processes

DETAILED DESIGN OF COMPONENTS

For technical units which emit structure-borne noise the structure-borne noise isolated bearings which have to be considered basically are given during basic design process.

In the course of detailed planning they will be specified on the basis of the actual device data with the following scope of work.

We are experts in:

  • coordination of device data (rotational speed, weight of devices, device geometries, bearing surfaces) with the planner of the technical equipment
  • design of elastic bearing arrangements
  • calculation of acoustic parameters  (resonance frequencies, coupling frequencies, damping ratio, isolation rate)
  • documentation of calculation results and structural components
